To deal with the safety risk of devices containing lithium batteries catching fire in the cargo hold and in accordance with instructions from the Japan Civil Aviation Bureau (MLIT), as of July 1, mandatory safety precautions apply whenever a portable electronic device containing a lithium battery is transported in the cargo hold.
If you store electronic devices containing lithium batteries in your checked baggage, you must take the following precautions to prevent fires that may result from accidental operation or damage.
- Completely turn off the power to the device. (Sleep mode is not acceptable.)
- Store the device in a hard suitcase or pack it among clothing or similar padding items.
