Walk on drift ice

You might be thinking, "What? You're saying you can stand on drift ice? And walk on it?" But the truth is, you can stand on it. You can walk on it. And as long as you wear a dry-suit, you'll be fine even if you fall, which never happens. Buoyant and anti-cold original suits that are the culmination of improvements added to diving suits are available. The goal is for visitors to more casually enjoy drift ice unencumbered by heavy diving equipment. This concept is where the Drift Ice Walk originated.

The Drift Ice Walk is the ultimate Hokkaido experience

The "Drift Ice Walk" is an activity where visitors can walk on top of drift ice from February to early March. The only place this activity is offered is along the Utoro shore on the Shiretoko Peninsula. Visitors are guided through the world of ice there by guides who are deeply in love with the beauty of "drift ice," a beauty which is fresh and different every day. The Drift Ice Walk is a special opportunity to experience the natural phenomenon of "drift ice" close up.

When you walk along the pure white drift ice field that stretches to the distant horizon line, you will notice something you cannot perceive simply by just looking at the ice. The drift ice is moving slowly. The ice makes a grating sound. When you go out into the ocean and float, the dry suit makes you so warm it feels pleasantly strange. Gazing into the sea, you can see drift ice angel Clionidae… The Drift Ice Walk feels like you have landed onto a completely different world. This is definitely the ultimate Hokkaido experience.
