Kofuku (“Happiness”) and Aikoku (“Land of Love”) Stations in Obihiro City are famous throughout Japan as tourist attractions that every couple wants to visit at least once in their lives. Both stations have now gone out of use; the former Aikoku Station has since been turned into a transportation memorial museum, and the former Kofuku Station is now a railroad park. In July 2008 the stations were selected as “lovers' sanctuaries” by the Regional Revitalization Support Center, NPO (Shizuoka Prefecture). And in 2013 they were voted the number one romantic destination for couples (in a survey by recruitment site Mynavi).
One thing that you must pick up on your visit is a ticket “from the Land of Love to Happiness”, which are sold at stores in front of Kofuku and Aikoku Stations. Of course you can't actually take a train with these tickets, but they make a nice charm to bring you good luck and success in love! You can also buy a ticket with the date printed on it.
In an event that is held at Kofuku Station every winter, visitors are presented with Christmas cards complete with a “message from Happiness”. While the station may not be decked out with ornate decorations in the Christmas season, you can nonetheless feel a happy glow in the midst of this snowy landscape, in a silence so deep you can practically hear the snow falling to the ground.Wish for happiness this Christmas. Why don't you get your own ticket to happiness, for you or for someone you love.
